In principle we don´t really have a clue what fashion is about. As graphic designer we just stumbled across it. We see the t-shirt as a wearable graphic, which is a basis for creative experiments. It's great having the freedom of deciding on our own what we like and what we want to do. Just for that reason the product became really good and compatible customers are found quickly. In our case nearly only by word-of-mouth advertising. Economic thoughts are always at second place. Consciously there is no logo or corporate identity at Yackfou. This gives us the chance to do research in the form canon of graffiti and streetwear by graphic trends. For these purposes we setup a graphic office with a big garage, which is a kind of lab. That helps us to publish new shirts and as an addicted collector one can discover the t-shirt as an object of cultural value.You take a straight dose of "fuck" and a spicy pinch of "you". Put everything into a big mixer and you get: Yackfou. Behind this sensedonating anagram there are Martin Krusche and Tobias Herrmann. We are two graphic artists from berlin and attend to t-shirts as graphic media, following the motto »function follows form«. We don't need a standardised appearance or logo, we want that everything is in forward motion and you can alway discover something new.

Since we started in 2003 we also sell our stuff also at the known Boxhagener flewmarket in Berlin-Friedrichshain. Starting with some selfprinted shirts there grew a unmanageable mountain of discountshirts, which are always a bit cheaper than the shirts in our shop. In addition we test our new lines there and how the audience likes it. So you see you have even the chance to get some unique stuff.

Everything started in 2003 with a little, not absolutely legal screenprint office in Berlin-Friedrichshain. The experiment should start with the small amount of 1.400 EUR. Fastly there were some shirts printed and sold at the Boxhagener flea market. The products found their costumers very fast, so that we used the asset to print new shirts. That´s still the principle of Yackfou. Currently there are ca.25 motives selected by colours on t-shirts, sweater and hoodies available. Yackfou works together very closely with American Apparel and the postproduction takes place in germany. Therefore all products are sweatshop-free and a fair trade is warranted.
